There are several reasons why I recommend Shaklee products. And before you ask, I don’t recommend them just because I sell them. It’s the other way around, actually!
I was sending patients to Donna (my friend and Shaklee sponsor) for months before I decided to start my own Shaklee business. I thoroughly investigated the company before I started, because as a doctor I have a responsibility to recommend the best possible therapeutic options for my patients.
The Shaklee Corporation was founded by Dr. Forrest Shaklee in 1956 after Dr. Shaklee spent years investigating nutrients found in foods and formulating one of the very first vitamin supplements. He felt strongly that most of the problems in American health were directly related to poor nutrition (what would he think if he could see us now?!) and that nutritional intervention would be the most effective way to get people feeling better and on the road to better health.
One of Dr. Shaklee’s biggest commitments was to forwarding scientific progress. Right from the start, he used scientific experimentation to determine the best combinations of nutrients. Today, the Shaklee Corporation sponsors more scientific research published in peer-reviewed journals than the rest of the natural-nutrition industry combined (and there are over 4000 companies in the US alone marketing nutritional supplements). The products themselves are based on scientific research as well.
Another reason for my comfort with Shaklee’s products is the fact that they are tested and tested and tested again for quality. Raw materials for production of botanical supplements (like ginseng, St. John’s wort, black cohosh and saw palmetto) are tested for over 350 different contaminants including molds, heavy metals, insecticides and pesticides. Shipments of botanical ingredients rejected by Shaklee are routinely bought by other supplement companies to be used to manufacture their products. Yikes!
The products are made without any artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors or preservatives. Those who are sensitive to artificial substances should have no trouble with Shaklee supplements. High-performance athletes use Shaklee Sports Nutrition supplements because they know they won’t be testing positive for performance-enhancing substances in the urine tests they have to take when they compete.
After production the finished supplement tablets and capsules are tested for potency before shipping. The workhorse multivitamins are subjected to 256 quality tests per batch, every time. This company does more quality tests on its products than the rest of the natural nutrition industry combined, over 100,000 tests annually. None of this is required by the government or any regulating body; Shaklee does it because it’s good business and good for our customers.
If a product is returned because of a side effect or because it didn’t work, Shaklee insists on having the lot number and expiration date from the bottle, so they can track if certain lots are having more returns than expected. Frequently they will ask the distributor to mail in what’s left of the bottle or canister so it can be checked to make sure there’s nothing wrong with it.
From a purely practical standpoint, it’s important to know that Shaklee has a money-back guarantee. If for any reason the customer doesn’t like the product they purchased they can return it for a full refund. My patients can be comfortable knowing that it does me no good to try to get them to buy something that won’t help them. (I really hope they know I wouldn’t do that, but still.) If they go home and reconsider, they can call me the next day and get their money back, even if they opened it. Any company that doesn’t have an almost-no-questions-asked money-back guarantee is a company you shouldn’t be dealing with.
Another consideration in my decision to join Shaklee was their focus on protecting the environment. Shaklee has a commitment to minimizing the impact of the company’s business on our planet. Activities such as recycling, using reusable packaging (for instance only the carbon-block insert in the water filter needs to be changed, everything else is reusable), using solar power and planting trees help make Shaklee friendly to the environment.
The last item to consider in my decision was Shaklee’s commitment to helping others. Shaklee Cares is the philanthropic arm of the company. Distributors are encouraged to make and rewarded for making donations to Shaklee Cares. Shaklee sent nutrition packs and cleaning supplies (and volunteers too) to help with the cleanups after Hurricane Katrina, the earthquakes in Haiti and Japan, and several tornado disasters in America. I should let Shaklee explain why it’s awesome, just in case I missed something. Please click here to watch a video about the Shaklee difference.
